Anti-Nuclear War Activists Condemn Trump’s Decision to Withdraw from the Iran Nuclear Deal

WASHINGTON, DC — Moments ago, President Trump announced that the United States would pull out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal.

In reaction to President Trump’s decision, John Qua, spokesperson for Beyond the Bomb, a new grassroots movement to prevent nuclear war, issued the following statement:

“Trump’s decision to pull out of the JCPOA, despite overwhelming public support for sticking with the agreement, sets the United States on a path to war with Iran. Backing out of the Iran deal is one of the most ill-informed and dangerous decisions yet to come out of this administration.

“What we’re seeing today is that Trump will fulfill his darkest campaign promises no matter the cost, even if it means reigniting a nuclear crisis in the Middle East and risking historic peace talks with North Korea. Unfortunately this comes as no surprise following the selection of Iraq War architect John Bolton as National Security Advisor and hawkish Islamophobe Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State.

“Trump’s obsession with shredding arms control agreements negotiated by his predecessor puts ego over country, and places the the United States — and the world — in harm’s way. It’s up to the American people to rise up and stop this President and his war cabinet from fueling crises that could spread more nuclear weapons around the globe — or worse, lead to their use.”
