FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, November 28, 2017 CONTACT: Anna Zuccaro | [email protected] | (914) 523-9145 Lillyanne Daigle, chief spokesperson for Beyond the Bomb, a new grassroots movement to prevent nuclear war, issued the following statement:

“The ICBM tested in North Korea’s latest missile test is capable of reaching any city on the U.S. mainland, including New York and Washington.

“The president’s so-called policy of ‘maximum pressure’ has failed to curb Kim Jong-Un’s alarming ambitions. In fact, Trump’s provocative tweets and bellicose rhetoric have put us on the fast track to nuclear war.  His threats aren’t working, and there are zero military options that don’t risk nuclear war. It’s time to double down on diplomacy.

“It’s no coincidence that the situation on the Korean peninsula has escalated since Trump took office in January. The president has grossly mishandled this crisis at every turn. Trump’s dangerous incompetence makes it all the more urgent for Congress to reassert itself in this conflict and reclaim responsibility for decisions on war and peace. That’s why we’re calling on Congress to support legislation that reins in Trump’s unchecked power to start nuclear war, like the “Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act.” The lives of potentially millions of people depend on it.
